With your AR 15 or AK 47, etc. against special forces troops dropping on you from armored and armed helicopters at any time, or the killer drones the military has so many of or simple guided missiles and a trained, extremely well-armed military?

You must be joking. At least, those military guys will see you as a joke, a nuisance to swat aside. No matter how many of your fellow citizens decided to go along with your idea- and not a lot of citizens own such weapons, and few would follow your lead into a certain death. But some will: those who actually think they can stand against the US military.

It is true that more people are killed by handguns than the ARs and AKs but handguns are cheap compared to the those and the rifles are the go-to weapon that mass shooters use to kill a lot of people fast. I grew up on a farm and used shotguns and rifles to hunt and I can tell that if you need that type of gun to shoot a deer, those hunters will laugh at your inability to aim correctly. Bringing home a bag of shredded deer is not the goal of shooting one. And it makes a bloody mess to clean up. Not to mention that handguns are far easier to obtain illegally because there are so many available but higher power rifles can be bought illegally, as well. And handguns are built for only a single purpose: to kill people. Period.
