When birds, or people, fly through the microwaves they won't know it. It would be weaker than the cosmic background radiation airplane passengers are already exposed to on every flight. And it does spread as all waves do so I would assume huge receivers would be needed to capture the energy carried by the microwaves sent from the satellites. I don't know how 'targeted' microwaves could be. Someone else here can probably answr that question.
