Trump was right about a monstrous conspiracy trying to undermine American democracy. He just never admitted that HE was part of it and the current 'front man' for the conspiracy. Although it's possible he was too stupid to even realize he was simply a pawn to be used.

Hillary warned of the "vast, rightwing conspiracy".

She was right, that conspiracy exists, but planning for the final rightwing take over the U.S. government took decades. Since Nixon, at the latest. Faces come, faces go, but the process in the background never stopped. It's now to the point that local and state politics are under Republican control in enough places that any elected official, at any level, will be someone who toes the line. Governors will be chosen in advance if they aren't already. The President will be put into Office regardless of who wins the popular or electoral vote. There are many ways multiple states can now use to choose the next President of the U.S.A.

I'm naive enough, though, to keep some optimism. Hope abides if nothing else. It is still possible that, in some miraculous way, a Tsunami of voters can get progressive, civic-minded politicians elected in November that our road to authoritarianism can be turned aside. For a time, at least.

Thanks for the sobering reminder that the world as we know it is over.
