“Trump to preach to an ideologically entrenched choir about “total exoneration,” in effect toxifying anything to do with Russian election interference in spite of the intelligence community overwhelmingly affirming claims about ongoing efforts to subvert American democracy.”
While Bernie preached to his ideologically entrenched choir that all that is needed is a mass uprising of Americans to overthrow the current governmental apparatus and all will be well with the world, although he couldn’t actually show how that “revolution” would actually work. Just as Trump couldn’t prove he’d “bring back the jobs, by the millions” yet his ideologically pure base didn’t bother to ask questions because their savior of the American way told them their ‘savior’ would do it.
“this may be a reality the #NeverBernie crowd must reconcile with if they are serious about their commitment to beating Donald Trump in November.”
Yet, 15%+ of Sanders supporters say they’ll not vote for anyone other than Bernie while supporters of Biden (and other candidates running for the nomination) are much more likely to support Bernie if he’s the nominee. It seems that the #BernieandBernieOnly crowd are the ones who need to reconcile with to show they’re serious about beating Trump in November.
“Online discourse will likely continue to be incendiary and plagued by disinformation — incentives for those behaviors are too strong to wish away. Failure to make these concessions, however, instead delving deeper into divisive conspiracy and misrepresentation of facts, could bring about the very end of liberal internationalism that Moscow has so desperately sought to manufacture.”
True, online discourse- if it ban be fairly considered discourse- will continue to be incendiary and plagued by disinformation and Bernie’s people latch onto everything they can to support their ‘savior’.
But you wrote this story in February and Bernie consistently lost state after state to Biden and has now dropped our of the race but many of the #NeverBiden crowd will probably still write in Bernie- their very own ‘savior’ or vote for Trump (as several hundred thousand did that in 2016) and Trump, with Bernie supporters help, may well win in November despite the nearly as far left policies of Biden https://www.politico.com/2020-election/candidates-views-on-the-issues/joe-biden/ compared to Bernie’s. Because their ideology is “Pure”. And they, for the most part his younger supporters, have no idea the damage “Purists” have done, especially since the 1960s, to this country and progressive goals.
