This is interesting, not only as it is the basis of the "Passover" holiday but because, much later, King Herod is said to have ordered that all male children under the age of two be slaughtered when he was told a Jewish boy would soon be born who would become a "King" of the Jews and he feared for his own position as King. And Mary and Joseph are said to have fled for safety to, of all places, Egypt.
I won't get into the mistranslation of the word used by Isaiah to mean "virgin" rather than "young woman" because that would anger too many Christians who've been taught differently and has nothing to do with your well-written look at the Exodus story, anyway. I always enjoy seeing the stories in the Bible studied by those without the blinders of pre-conceived beliefs. I hope to read more of your writings, Mr. Gold.
