The sun is by far the greatest source of energy reaching the earth, but not the "only" source. For Systems Engineering purposes, energy coming from other sources is of course statistically insignificant.
And I'm not sure if my view goes far enough or not toward humanity doing the right thing as a species.
Since I was in my teen years, I've just assumed that God is with me, always, and that steadfast belief, my grandfather called it "faith", has worked for ME
I don't know if that same, quiet trust that God, through the Universe, will ensure that all things work for their own good.
I'll be the first to admit that I am unwilling to give up the things that exploitation has brought us despite knowing it's wrong and unfair to the planet that supports all 8.5 billion of us.
There seems to be a sea change coming and if enough people choose the good, as a species we might thrive. Or at least survive.
I would argue that humanity is being lost- unless...
We have already created a monster; the question is how can it be tamed? Blake (?) said that if you grab a tiger by the tail, it will kill you if you let it go. I'm afraid we've created a huge tiger and if we can't let it go, we must find a way to kill it.
I would argue that our education systems have reduced the possibility of more "moderate" humans but that it isn't, quite yet, too late to change our future. Difficult in the extreme but needed.
As for the culling of the majority of humans, it's beginning to appear that it has already begun. It's amazing what most of the planet's wealth being held by a small number of people can accomplish.
I may be naive, but I still hold out for the Hollywood ending where the good guys win the day.
It doesn't look good for humanity, but hope abides...
