That was my first thought: Republicans found a way to use our radical-right not so supreme court found a way to amend the Constitution by fiat, no hassle of doing it the Constitution's way. And it ;didn't happen overnight; it's been a fifty year-long campaign, eating away at the Constitution's authority a bite at a time. Hillary was right when she used the phrase "Vast Rightwing Conspiracy". The names and faces may have changed over the years, but the goal has always remained the same: reform the government to an authoritarian one. And SCOTUS is ready to move it along.

I suppose the Founders can be forgiven for thinking that men of such low character would never hold seats of such power.
