That reminds me of middle school math and algebra. I might look at a problem and know the correct answer, so I write it, only to then be told something to the effect of "show your work in arriving at the correct answer".
It was the part that required writing out each step that led to the correct answer that I had problems with, not in giving the correct answer. I learned that that approach held true in every field of study until university. There, the correct answer is what was required rather than the process used. to get there. Intellectual debate is a good thing and has its place but that alone doesn't lead to a greater understanding.
