Thank you for your reply but I still disagree that either Biden or Harris are "neoliberals". I read the opinion piece you linked to and although Jacobin.mag.com is considered factual and well-sourced that article, and his sources, is one writer's opinion, not a news article. Just as what you write is your opinion and what I write is my opinion. Everything we read on Medium is that writer's opinion, not necessarily "news" reporting. We both, as all writers do, bring our own biases into what we write. And I, too, carefully source my article/opinions. But I'm not a socialist, I just agree that we need to control capitalism rather than let it be a "free (unfettered by regulations) market".

I don't see Joe or Kamala as big proponents of "free market capitalism" (Adam Smith's "invisible hand" that somehow corrects everything is a myth and always has been) but as supporters of well-regulated capitalism, which is the direction we need to move in. We cannot ban an entire industry such as health insurers but we can make them compete with a broad Public Option and expanded Medicare and Medicaid. But some people can afford to pay for better, more expansive policies and should have that option. An expanded Medicare or Public Option isn't going to pay for eyeglasses or unneeded plastic surgeries but if someone wants cosmetic surgeries and can pay for that type of policy they should that option. It shouldn't be up to the public to decide whether or not a woman can get a nose job or bigger breasts or facelifts (with the exception of a "boob job"[ is it okay to say that?] I really should include men in the cosmetic surgery group, too). If she or he wants a policy that covers those things then they certainly should have that option. Private health insurance companies would still have that niche of consumers.

The only issue I have with Medicare for All is the "for all" part; why should middle class and working class citizens pay a single dime of a millionaires healthcare expenses? I think most would agree that they (we) shouldn't. Every industry in this nation is needed (if there wasn't a market for a companies' products that company wouldn't exist) but strong regulations are needed and need to be enforced. With the ongoing switch to clean energy, fossil fuel companies will make that switch, too, or wither away.

Jacobin.mag.com is clearly and proudly socialist but this country doesn't need to be socialist to have a fairer society. Just more socialist programs for a stronger safety net. Take Sweden as an example: they are widely considered (in this country) as a socialist nation because of the high taxes and large social safety net but Sweden is not a socialist nation: it has a capitalist economy that is strongly regulated and taxed and I think that most Swedes would be offended to be called socialists.

Neoliberals are against regulating any business because they adhere to Adam Smith's theories and most Republicans are neoliberals.

Biden has detailed proposals that address nearly every major issue we face on his website and Bernie Sanders has accepted Joe's request to help him govern and has helped push the Democratic Party farther to the left but unless we get the man-who-would-be-king out of Washington, along with his minions in the Senate, then frankly, progress will not only come to a stop as he's been trying to do but will reverse and that's not something we can allow to happen.

Not if we actually care about a better future for all of us and our children and children's' children. And if that requires a candidate we don't fully support, then so be it. I want a better future. I've published several stories detailing my political thoughts (opinions) on Medium if you're interested in reading them and I intend to read more of your stories because different viewpoints are always a good thing in an open society.
