Paid maternity leave. Yes.
Paid sick leave. Yes.
Universal healthcare. Yes.
US isn’t the best nation on earth? Of course it isn’t and I’m well aware of that.
Change is maybe good? Yes.
Paid time off to care for an ailing relative. Yes. (you left that one out or do you not endorse it?)
And I should “humble” myself? Other than fiscally (which is just common sense), I’m not a conservative and am not sure how you get that idea. If anything I’m more progressive than you but I know that getting good things takes time and effort.
Is change okay? Yes.
Is instant change okay? No, and it never has been. Instant gratification is a thing for young children who haven’t yet learned that good things come slowly and take effort and time. Anyone who thinks change happens overnight, or even in the span of a few years is someone who has yet to reach maturity.
Since I’m a “boomer” to some people and all “boomers” are stupid, stubborn, selfish, entitled and out of touch (none of which applies to me). What I am is educated, serious, experienced, mature and willing to work for a long time to improve the US and the world at large.
I can and have “wrapped my head around” what you say you want and I am not “holed up” and never have been. But I do know that good things don’t come without a lot of time and hard work.
Was slavery eliminated in a few years, or instantly? Did women get the right to vote in few years or instantly? Did non-land owning men get the right to vote in a few years, or instantly? Were civil rights attained in a few years, or instantly? Were Jim Crow laws eliminated in a few years, or instantly? Were the health of the environment or the dangers of climate change recognized and addressed in a few years or instantly?
The answers to the above are all- NO.
And you still can’t wrap your head around that. You want to stay safe, holed up in your beliefs that the world will change for you immediately but it won’t. The work can be done without your anger- anger breeds hate and hate breeds division, which you seem to embrace. Neither hate nor division will get us anywhere, let alone the things you claim to want.
