My guess would be that he means just what he said. The Bible, for all its glorious teachings, is largely a collection of myths meant to teach lessons, but it is also scattered with lies that some people choose to hide behind.

Hint: Satan- he/it doesn't exist and what doesn't exist can't make anyone commit evil or good. Good comes from within, as does Heaven- see the words of Jesus about the kingdom of Heaven-it IS not the same as the Kingdom of God. "Heaven" is what each person makes of his of this world and "Hell" is the same.
