Most U.S. states have subsidy programs. The main electricity here, Dominion, has several solar farms and battery backup, and a 'fill at night in low demand hours' reservoir for hydropower to help meet peak demand hours.

And every grid around the country needs to be replaced, if one grid at a time, so solar and wind energy doesn't change a thing- the cost has to be paid either way.

Reading this 'thought experiment' was like reading directly from the American Enterprise Institute, funded by Exxon Mobil.
