Maybe it's a generational thing but I spent my youth reading, not watching, by which I assume you mean television and movies. If you spent your youth watching, then it was, for the most part, wasted. I read non-fiction and fiction, including a lot of Sci-Fi, as you call it. But I never thought of fictional stories as being true, factual. I'm not that delusional. Stories are intended to be read with a "willing suspension of disbelief" not as factional 'stories'. Factual stories are referred to as non-fiction for a reason- they aren't fiction. I read fiction for enjoyment not to learn new 'facts'. If I want facts I go to non-fiction but for enjoyment I go to fiction.
