I would, too but as you say the early Church writers never focused on Jesus' female followers. From what I recall from Religious Studies in college, Mary was a wealthy widow in the fishing village of Magda, hence her name. She apparently helped 'support' Jesus, the Apostles and disciples but the early Church writers decided to make her out to be a whore rather than acknowledge the help she provided. I wonder how much more help she provided the followers of Jesus after he was murdered and when/why/how she died.

Typical men of their era, they only wanted the men to receive any credit. Even though bishops in Paul's Church were often married and had children but encouraged to be the husband of only "one wife" to set an example for members of the various churches and, as far as I know, nothing was written about them, either. And treating women as 'secondary' to men continues today. The whole idea in the Catholic Church that men must be celibate isn't biblical and is one of the biggest problems the Church still has.
