I would consider that a misinterpretation, as much of the 'Old Testament' consists of. Jesus said that "Heaven" (as a physical "place", it is a Greek concept) to come from within (the heart) and spread upon the face of the earth. He distinguished the "Heavan" of Greek belief from the Kingdom of Heaven that comes from within and from the Kingdom of God. There is no physical Heavan or Hell so physical distance has nothing to do with the true "Heaven" that resides in everyone's heart. That Heaven can also be "Hell" if that is what one chooses in this life.

To reach the place of soul and angels is instantaneous, but also not, because it is outside of time, thus unmeasurable. I do believe that we are all watched over by the Universe, by God. And that such things as "Angels" do exist and do, when needed, appear here, on the physical plane. But only as long as necessary. The man who spoke to the two Apostles on the road who the Apostles later realized was Jesus is just such an example of an Angel appearing in physical form. The "men" sent to warn Lot that his city would be destroyed because the people there lacked the key factor of hospitality would certainly have been Angels in the physical world.
