I was in my late teens at the time but I remember Leonie and her statement: “Taxes? Only the little people pay taxes”.

I saw even then that that was the height of arrogance and our Dear Leader Reagan entered Office soon after and dramatically cut taxes for the rich while running an illegal ‘buy cocaine in bulk from criminal Central American gangs, import it via US military aircraft, get it to poor i.e. “black” neighborhoods, use the huge profits to buy weapons then sell them to Iran to bypass the US ban on selling weapons to Iran. I thought then, and still do, that Reagan made a deal with the Iranian leader to continue to hold the 52 Americans hostage until after the election so he’d have a much better chance of winning and would then provide the arms Iran wanted. But Reagan was never prosecuted or even impeached when details of that came out- it was simply called the Iran/Contra scandal. A forerunner of simplistic phrases used by Republican Presidents ever since with our current POTUS having mastered it.
