I read that book. It's a classic of science fiction and is a great read for anyone. And the "church" was the religion. It was set up much like Scientology. A key difference being that the belief was that ALL things are God. Something I believe Jesus would've approved of since he taught much the same thing. It was the "Church" formed decades after his death by men who never met him or heard him speak that twisted his words and chose selected writings from thousands to convince the largely illiterate masses that only the Church leaders could save them (much as Jewish Priests claimed and whom Jesus criticized for standing between God and man) through "Christ" that caused the problems with "Christianity". All organized religions fall into that same trap, not just Christianity so I'm not singling out that religion, alone.
