I don’t know O.J’s number either- I believe he now has a prisoner number. I’ve always been a “Liberal” since before that label became popular in the U.S.
I could safely call myself a “classical liberal” but believe that a part of being a liberal is fiscal conservatism; most politicians who call themselves “conservatives” are anything but. A true “conservative” is fiscally responsible and that requires a bit of liberalism. AOC, Bernie, Warren, and so many others who call themselves “progressives” misuse the word; FDR was progressive but fiscally conservative. The “progressives” of today are anything but that.
I would consider someone a white nationalist if he or she espoused that our nation is only for “whites” and no one else should be here or come here. UI45 (Unindicted co-conspirator 45- I can’t bring myself to type his name)made the ridiculous statement after the rally in Charlottesville that there are “fine people on both sides”. Peaceful protestors versus torch carrying (tiki torches) shouting Jews go home (and just where is home for them? The nation in which they were born, most in the US, and one of those “fine people” on the other side using his car to plow through the protestors and killing a young woman was/is not a “fine person”.
UI45 is not Hitler but he’s following the same playbook people such as Hitler have used for centuries so, no, America isn’t a fascist nation but is well on its way to becoming one if UI45 cheats his way into another 4-year term.
Russia didn’t win the election for UI45 but Putin certainly did all he could to help and is working to divide us again and that sort of division is what led us to our current occupant of the WH. Putin dreams of his days in the KBG when the Soviet Union was a world power and attempts to sow discord wherever possible to stir hatred and disillusion with “democratic” governments. The US hasn’t collapsed yet and probably (hopefully) won’t, although I have no respect at all for the DNC. I’ve only voted for one Republican in my life and that was John Warner. He sometimes stood up to his Party and voted for what he believed was right, rather than lockstep as most do now. And since then (1980, the first election in which I was old enough to vote) I’ve only voted ‘blue’. And, as little respect as I have for any of the “progressive” candidates, I’ll ‘hold my nose’ and vote for the eventual nominee because the alternative will be UI45. I’d prefer it be Joe Biden; unlike the others, he knows that all the great plans liberal candidates have, nothing will get done without a supporting Congress and will not be done on the first day or first 100 days.
Universal healthcare has been championed by multiple Presidents since Teddy Roosevelt but Social Security was the best FDR could get passed. Under Obama, the ACA was passed but without the Public Option he wanted. I think that is still a step in the right direction and could well be passed, while “Medicare for All” will probably never pass. You don’t just “outlaw” an entire industry; better to just make them compete with a Public Option plan and they will eventually fade away without the sudden loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs. It isn’t fair to those people and there is nothing “progressive” about destroying jobs without giving said employees adequate time to migrate to a different job.
I didn’t address everything you said but I have an appointment and have to leave now. Carpe Diem.
