I applaud you for doing the right thing. Everyone in my household never goes into any store or public place without wearing a mask in the proper way. I have noticed that mask usage is improving but there are still those who selfishly don't take the simple precaution of wearing masks.
My brother and his wife still don't believe the virus is a danger and the rest of my family's concern is not just for him and his wife but for her children and grandchildren, as well.
And, unfortunately, I doubt they'll even believe there's any danger until one of his or one of her children is infected. His children do take the threat seriously and wear the masks but his grandchild doesn't nor do her children.
The only time my brother will wear a mask is when he visits my mother; she won't allow anyone in her home unless they're masked. She's 82 years old sand has health problems and her husband is 80 and although they're both strong they aren't stupid. My mother worries daily about him, his wife and the children and grandchildren.
My son, however, does understand the threat and even my 6-year old granddaughter wears a mask. It has stars and moons and glitter, but it's what she wanted. He's told me that even if schools reopen where they live, he intends to home school her.
It makes me proud to have such a sensible son.
And there is o way this can get anywhere close to normal again in a year or 2 years. It will probably get safer but SARS CoV-2 in not going away until the entire world is vaccinated or immune. That's over 7 billion people, most of whom will not be able to afford a vaccine or treatment. The nations that can, especially the US, will have to cover much of that cost and under the current political climate that's a tall order.
Who we have in charge in Washington will make all the difference and if it means higher taxes on hugely profitable corporations and extraordinarily wealthy individuals then that's what has to be done.
I hate to break it to them but their wealth, much gained at the expense of lower and middle income people, will have to be shared or we'll never be free of this scourge.
