There are a lot of conflicting opinions on NAFTA’s effects but there were three million more manufacturing jobs in the US just two years after it’s passage. If jobs went to Mexico most were the lower paid positions while the new jobs here paid more.
Just as auto makers now are having their less-profitable cars- sedans- built in Mexico and building the high value vehicles- trucks, etc.- built in the US. With automation growing in all industries, few if any manufacturing jobs will exist with 10,15, or 20 years.
He want Dreamers to be citizens, among other immigration reforms.
He wants higher taxes on the rich and corporations paying taxes because the loopholes are ended.
He wants overseas profits taxed.
If you want to use his voting record, there are things cringeworthy but the same is true of Bernie. He both praised and signed the ’94 Crime Bill that he uses to bludgeon Joe and Bernie also pushed for an amendment to a later (1998, I think) crime bill that added $11.5 billion for new prisons.
New Prisons because apparently we didn’t have enough of them?
He voted for that amendment while 49 Democrats voted against it. He’s been very pro-gun friendly, voting repeatedly against gun control measures, even 5 times against the Brady Bill. Nothing left-leaning about that.
In 2015, while considering another run at being President he suddenly decided that assault-style weapons should be regulated, after all. And maybe for-profit private prisons weren’t such a great idea. But, his policy views haven’t changed in 40 years? There’s far more in his records, if anyone wants to argue on that basis, that the vast majority of his supporters would be surprised to find out.
Of course I’ll fully support and vote for Bernie if he’s the nominee, I’m not stupid. But I’m not sure he can beat Trump and we, as a nation, can’t take another four years of a man whom the Republican Senate has placed above the rule of law; a dictator in all but title.
Make a comparison: Biden is “left-leaning”. Bernie is an “instant gratification” sort of guy.
