Everyone's 3rd great grandmother was chattel, no matter her race. My female ancestors were from the Byrd family of Virginia yet were still owned by the men of the families. Not slaves, but not free, either. Not to take away from the work your ancestors were forced to do, but if you want to speak of women being owned, all women were "property".
