Easter Cacti in Bloom

A poem

The Easter cacti
Open their red blooms
At dawn, petals spread wide
To reveal stamens

Dusted with yellow, like gold
They catch the morning sun

Then stay full open all day
And bask in their glory
Until evening
When the petals slowly fold in, and close

To sleep again, protect their golden heart
From the dark of night, until morning comes
When they share their glory again
And it’s a new day
