Didn't Jesus say the Law was written for those who ignored what God put in every man's heart and that if you love your neighbor, you love God, and the rest is mere commentary? But murder and bearing false witness does, of course, not exist in the heart of one who accepts God's love. In that case, the 10 were written to keep people who otherwise refuse to accept the love God has put in their hearts to do good even when it isn't their first inclination. They were written, based on the much older Hammurabi's code of conduct, to help people avoid doing things that further separate them from God. So, they don't mean "nothing", they are guides to follow in this life except they don't apply to someone who accepts God into their heart since giving your life over to God means you no longer break the Commandments.
Great article, Keith and I have far more questions than answers but, like you, I still search for the truth, as far as it can be understood in this world, this human life.
