Agree 100%. Much of the world's greatest art comes from trauma.
Michelangelo- homosexual- but the Sistine Chapel is still a wonerful work of art.
Walt Disney, a fanatical anti-Semite. Should everyone stopped attending his theme parks and stop watching Disney movies?
Orsen Scott Card- a modern writer but radical Libertarian- and outstanding science fiction writer- should no one read his books or view the movies made by him because of his political beliefs?
Robert Heinlein- a famous and respected writer- should no one read his books, including the classic "Stranger in a Strange Land" (a book well ahead if its time and one I heartily recommrnd everyone read) because of his political/societal beliefs?
Traumatized people ofen produce the greatest art- should it be ignored because one doesn't like the artist's life or beliefs, whether religious, political, or societal?
I think not.
Regardless of Campbell's many shortcomings in life, he was still a brilliant man and his books are used in many college courses because it's the content of his books and the teachngs within that pofessors teach- not the man's less than perfect personal beliefs.
I don't agree with the beliefs of many great artists but I know art when I see (or read) it and the lives and beliefs of the artist do not detract from the art itself.
