A go-between that isn't needed to know God, but a handy way for those go-betweens to collect money from those who think the priest, etc. is the only one whom God hears. Think, the Joel Osteens of the world. For all their mansions and jet airplanes, God doesn't hear them anymore than he hears anyone else. It was that kind of person that Jesus raged against at Temple. And was murdered for speaking out against them. As Jesus said, "The world will hate you because of me". If you follow what Jesus taught, you'll be getting in the way of all that wealth flowing to those modern-day 'priests' and yes, you will be hated by their ilk. But loved by God, as God loves all people.
