Some of these stories are from 2020 but the gist of each remains relevant. Others were written this year.
Quote: “The health of the eye seems to demand a horizon. We are never tired, so long as we can see far enough.”
RALPH WALDO EMERSON
Quote: “The United
States was the only country to go from barbarism to decadence
without passing through civilization.”
A Tale of Childhood Wonder and Lessons Learned
I was about halfway along the path when a familiar voice called out: “Where’re you going?”
It was Laurel, the girl who lived two houses up from me. The path led under big, old pin oak trees and past a stand of younger pines that separated our neighborhood from the open fields of a National Park, and right past Laurel’s backyard. Whenever she saw me headed up the path alone, she wanted to tag along.
“I don’t know,” I shrugged, “Just hiking. Guess I’ll go up to the field.”
“Can I go?”
A lot of Progressives are complaining because the Congressional Democrats and President Biden did not get all they ‘promised’ into the Relief Act.
And that is true. The President and Democrats in Congress did not get the promised $2,000 one-time payment or $400 weekly payments to the unemployed and, perhaps most important to many Progressives, the $15 an hour minimum wage increase.
Instead, Democrats managed to push through a one-time payment of $1,400 to all Americans earning under $75,000 yearly income, $300 a week unemployment assistance through September 6, 2021, with the first $10,200 tax free.
But no minimum wage…
Most dreams have meanings, and it is helpful to understand them
A ancient Greek concept: we hurtle through life with our backs to the future, able to see only what is past, never what is to come.
I have always been fascinated by dreams and the way they fragment into ‘weird’ imagery and what the imagery means. Are dreams intended to get a message across or are they simply your brain filing and storing events of the day. I believe in both types of dreams. I am not a psychologist and have no formal education directly related to dream interpretation…
The political Party was the SA, the SS a small, but later much larger, subdivision of the SA- not separate Parties. Trotskyites were merely complainers who wanted Leninists to take a revolution to every nation in the world, not a separate political Party. They were later involved in Britain's Labour Party and pushed to have all major businesses and the property owned by anyone and nationalize it- communism, not socialism.
So, is the Republican Party a subdivision of the Democratic Party or is it the other way around? And there are multiple political parties besides the Ds and Rs. The…
Climate change is terrifying. The predictions of doughts, floods, storms, hurricanes, failing crops, extinctions and rising oceans can sometimes seem so horrific that they must preside in fiction. After all, Earth’s climate has never changed this rapidly before, at least if you ignore the massive…
And what were once 'predictions' are now facts that we live with everyday.
And just where did this universe come from? It’s all energy so where did that energy come from? It isn’t eternal. Everything that has a beginning has an end. We know the universe began roughly 14 billion years ago but from where? The big bang seems to be the accepted point when this universe began. Where did the big bang get its energy? Maybe Eternity provided it so our universe could be created. The enormous energy required for the big bang to happen had to come from somewhere. And energy can be neither created nor destroyed, it can only change…
Now, other times perhaps a warning of a future event, a day, a few days or a year or two. I can till remember certain dreams I had as a young child.
Same here, and they were frightening dreams that brief 'flashes' of them still some to mind if I think about them. The stairway where all the steps flip into a ramp to slide down to a dark area, straw strewn about, a hall way leading off on both sides. That's always been with me but I have no real idea how to interpret it- well, the one way I might doesn't look promising to me so I simply ignore it.
You're right, a point of reference is needed and that's something I'm going to add in the next piece. The…
Let me begin on a note of caution. Biden’s fans are becoming something of a cult. They brook no criticism, and don’t want others to, either. They expect an atmosphere of relentless positivity, not free thinking and reason. This is going to be a critical essay, like most essays should be. It is not going to go easy on Bide…
You go on to say that this will be a critical essay but there is nothing "critical", as in critical thinking, about painting us all with the same broad, insulting brush. If you're going to claim critical thinking then perhaps you should give it a try sometimes.
I'm sorry but your premise is extremely far-fetched. How would/could you know that Jesus was having a "flashback"? That's a direct claim that Jesus had all the mental weaknesses of every other man then you claim he's God, too. Those two things are mutually exclusive as Jesus would tell you. But churches are remarkably good at cherry picking and twisting the meaning of Bible verses to fit Jesus into their version of him. While ignoring the fact that Jesus harshly criticized those same things during his teachings as the greatest and closest to God sage who has ever lived.
